Dr Shane Kelly graduated from University College Dublin with honours in 2005. He subsequently undertook dual postgraduate training in clinical immunology and in immunopathology at St Vincent's and Westmead hospitals in Sydney and received dual fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) in 2016.

Dr Kelly was awarded a doctorate in philosophy (PhD) from UNSW in 2022 for work in the field of B-cell immunogenomics and autoimmunity, supervised by Prof Chris Goodnow at the Garvan Institute.

He has several first author publications in high impact-factor journals, and has presented his work nationally and internationally, including at EAACI. He also works as a staff specialist in allergy and clinical immunology at Blacktown Hospital, conjoint senior lecturer for Western Sydney University, and immunopathologist for the NSW Transplantation and Immunogenetics Services, Australian Red Cross/Lifeblood.
